The Northern Circuit is the longest and most complete route on Kilimanjaro, with strong acclimatisation and a high summit success rate. It starts on the western side and circles the northern slopes — a remote, quiet, premium trek. The 9-day plan follows ‘climb high, sleep low’ for a safer summit attempt at Uhuru Peak.
Registration and a guide briefing at the gate, then a gentle, shaded trail with colobus and blue monkeys and many birds.
Leave the rainforest for moorland with giant heathers and lobelias; the air gets cooler and drier.
A shorter acclimatisation day on the Shira Plateau with views of Kibo Peak and an optional short walk in the afternoon.

Rocky ground to the final base camp. Rest, drink, have an early dinner and go to bed early before the midnight start.
Wake around midnight and climb slowly to Stella Point, then along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa — perhaps with a sunrise above the clouds. A careful descent to Mweka Camp.
A gentle descent, your summit certificate at the gate and the transfer back to your hotel.
