Chemka Hot Springs Day Trip

1 Day

Overview

Chemka Hot Springs, also known as Kikuletwa Hot Springs, is one of Tanzania’s hidden natural gems located between Moshi and Arusha. Despite being called a “hot spring,” the water is not boiling; instead, it is naturally warmed by underground geothermal processes.

Historically, this area was known mainly by local communities, especially the Chagga people around the Kilimanjaro region, who used the spring as a natural water source. The name “Chemka” comes from the Swahili word meaning “to boil or bubble,” describing how the water appears to bubble from underground. The water actually comes from underground streams linked to Mount Kilimanjaro’s aquifer, filtered through volcanic soil, making it extremely clean and clear.

Today, Chemka has become a popular destination for both locals and international visitors, offering a peaceful environment surrounded by palm trees and crystal-clear turquoise water perfect for relaxation, swimming, and nature experience.
